The Wonder of Wilderness

Psalm 98

Lately, I haven't been posting and there's been so much struggle with my relationship with God. I think, "How can there be anything that separates me from the creator of the world, my God who loves and cherishes me, and loves me unconditionally?" I feel as if these days, God is taken so lightly. We need to look at him with fear, knowing He's all powerful, all loving and all knowing, yet when I look at God, I don't fear him. I've literally been sick all March Break and all I did was sleep. If I wasn't sleeping, I was knocked out by my medication. How could I worship in a state like that? How could I do my devotions half-hearted? I couldn't and that's why I skipped a few postings.

Today's devotion brought me back to the basic: nature. When I read this, I imagined lush fields with a soft wind, all worshiping God. If even nature itself worships the Lord that created it, why can't we see the beauty within that?!

"Let the sea resound, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it. Let the rivers clap their hands, let the mountains sing together for joy; let them sing before the Lord, for he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples with equity." [Psalm 98:7-9]

I love how the psalmist uses words that we do, such as clap and sing, to describe nature! The Lord is so great, so righteous, so amazing that even nature worships by clapping and singing! And they do this because he will judge the world in righteousness and with equity. When we see such things in the world, do we rejoice? We need to!

Sometimes at the park, I just stare at nature. At the trees that flow steadily in the wind, or at the sand that slowly picks up onto the sidewalk and go, "Wow God. And it is good." I need to go back to the mindset where I saw God's handiwork in everything. I need to be able to just walk out the door, breath in a spring's wind and say, "Yes! God, this is good!" These days, everything is overtaken by buildings, infrastructures and things that block out God's work, but to be able to do this, to be able to see God's work in everything, even a wind, is truly a blessing and when you do, it's breathtaking. Let us go out today and see God in everything! Especially nature!

In praise, the creature happily acknowledges that everything good comes from the Creator.
