Not My Kind

Galatians 3:19-29

I visited Hong Kong last summer for two months, and well...being Hong Kong, I saw Chinese people everywhere. After coming back to Canada, you really do realize how multicultural Canada is. I talked with one of my cousins a few years ago, and when I mentioned I was Christian, he asked, "Really? But you're Chinese! You're supposed to be Buddhist!"

There are many instances where someone might say, "How can you be a Christian? You aren't even my kind." Since when did ethnicity or country of origin determine one's relationship with Christ? It shouldn't.

"You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise." [Galatians 3:26-29]

God tells us directly that if we are Christian, we are all one family; there are no "You aren't my kind!" comments, nor should there be any distinction. We're all in Christ. So whether there are differences between you and another brother or sister, whether race, political stance, attitude, class or anything else, it shouldn't make any difference.

Love you're neighbour - even if they aren't your kind!
