When I was a little kid, I loved imitating my older brother. Since my parents were always working, I basically felt like he was my father at times. Whether it was the way he talked, or the way he ate, I would try to be like him, and just follow what he did.
Our relationship with Christ is like that. We should imitate the way our heavenly father is, even to the point of his sacrifice. Eventually, this becomes our personality, and other people will see Christ through us! When we become parents, our children will want to imitate us; and we need to be imitators of God! Let's say as a parent, we're very strict, unloving and ultimately, make our children's lives feel like hell. Wouldn't they think that's who God is? Someone who is strict, unloving, and make their life feel like a list of rules?
"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up." [Deuteronomy 6:5-7]
God wants us to love him with everything we have, and when our future children sees this, they too, will love God with all they have.

To teach your children well, let God teach you.
