Did you know that the most of the major highways of Michigan were first built by the Native Americans within that area? Before the Americans came, the Native Americans made trails about 12-18 inches wide, giving enough space for individuals to walk in a single file. Following them, the horses would eventually make the trail bigger. Then, wagons were developed and these trails became larger, and finally they became dirt roads and now highways.
"Listen, my sons, to a father's instruction; pay attention and gain understanding. I give you sound learning, so do not forsake my teaching. When I was a boy in my father's house, still tender, and an only child of my mother, he taught me and said, "Lay hold of my words with all your heart; keep my commands and you will live"." [Proverbs 4:1-4]
Solomon's father told him what his father, David, had told him, and passed the knowledge down through the generations. Eventually, Solomon told his children what his father had passed onto him and this paved the way for his sons and eventually, grandsons. Just like the highway "built" by the Native Americans, we too can leave trails for our brothers and sisters, and sons and daughters.
"Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you. Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding." [Proverbs 4:6-8]
Just as we make a trail, younger generations will follow and that trail will eventually be a highway to God's glory.

When we follow God, we blaze a trail for those who would follow.
