Life is so fragile. It actually is. Three days ago, I was informed of the tragic news that my friend's older brother had died in a crash. Although I did not know him personally, I've heard of many stories of him. Despite the usual fighting in their brotherly-sisterly relationship, they honestly cared so much for each other. Our lives is one of the greatest gifts anyone can ever give. We are alive when we received the breath of the Lord, and when we die, we're simply returning that breath to God. But think about it. We all have a timeline; a day where we die. But to voluntarily give up your breath just so another can live, that is the greatest sacrifice.
There are mothers that give up their lives for their babies; individuals who push others away from the path of danger; firefighters who risk their lives everyday. During the Japanese disaster a few years ago, a mother was found dead shielding the body of her baby, who later survived. This is the ultimate act of love; to give up your life for another.
"Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends." [John 15:13]
While we still hated him, did not know him and pushed him away, Jesus thought of us as his friends, his sheep, and died on the cross for us on this very day. He was beaten to an inch of life and then hung on the cross. He died for you and me. How great is that love? Jesus ultimately set the example of self-sacrifice and love.
Not only so, he made a way for us sinners to be saved and have a home in heaven. How amazing is that? In this passage, Jesus tells us repeated to "remain in him" nine times. How important is that? To remain in him; without Jesus, we have no way of being saved. We must remain in him to show Christ through us, who made the ultimate sacrifice on this very day. Let us not forget the reason we have a Good Friday.

Christ’s sacrifice was what God desired and our sin required.
